PILATES

MAT PILATES

Pilates is an effective and fun all-body workout suitable for any skill level, age, size and background that can really transform people’s quality of life, increase strength, flexibility, mobility, posture and body awareness and improve mood and energy levels dramatically. Pilates skills and techniques are transferable to everyday tasks, and help participants lead a truly happier, healthier life. Pilates combines a mix of exercises and breathing techniques to strengthen your body, mobilise your joints, build a strong core and improve balance, focus and co-ordination.

Through breathing, centring, control, concentration, flow and precision, this class takes a full body approach – a regular Pilates practice can compliment a wide range of other training methods. A wide range of modifications and progressions is available for each exercise, so no matter which level you’re at, you can expect to improve your posture, muscle tone, core strength and joint mobility with every session. Working with body and mind throughout the class, Pilates makes you calmer, stronger, more focused and more flexible.

REFORMER PILATES

The Reformer is a piece of equipment which has a gliding platform or ‘carriage’ attached by springs to the body of the Reformer. It offers all the benefits of Pilates, including overall strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance, with the additional benefits of increased resistance and versatility for fast results. These things, in turn, lead to daily life improvements like better posture, graceful and efficient movement, and for many, relief from pain associated with physical imbalances such as back pain. A wide variety of exercises are done on the reformer to promote length, strength, flexibility, and balance. Most Pilates reformer exercises have to do with pushing or pulling the carriage or holding the carriage steady during an exercise as it is pulled on by the springs.

One of the best things about the reformer is its versatility. Exercises can be done lying down, sitting, standing, pulling the straps, pushing the footbar, perched on the footbar, perched on the shoulder blocks, with additional equipment, upside down, sideways, and all kinds of variations.

"Best class so far! Vanessa was amazing can’t wait to do her class again."

AERIAL (YOGA & PILATES)

AERIAL YOGA

Aerial Yoga uses a hammock (or swing) to support the weight of your body. This allows you to achieve proper postural alignment through relaxation, deep stretches and strengthening exercises, as well as exploration of challenging yoga positions. Classes are suitable for all levels.

Aerial Yoga increases flexibility, improves posture and facilitates a peaceful state of mind. Classes also include techniques such as aerial inverts and backbends to allow safe and controlled spinal decompression.

MOBILITY & FLEXIBILITY

Mobility and flexibilty training is an important but often overlooked area of exercise, not just for professional athletes or dancers, but suitable and indeed essential for everyone’s physical health, regardless of age or fitness level. Classes focus on improving flexibility through a mixture of dynamic and static stretching as well as mobilising shoulders, backs and hips to increase range and ability of movement and improve the workings of all major joints in the body. This will also help with overall stress and tension reduction. No prior experience needed.

"Vanessa is welcoming, inclusive and explains exercises well so it’s easy to follow. Classes not only enabled me to gain strength and flexibility, but also helped with back and neck pain. And most importantly they are not boring as Vanessa can combine range of exercises in an interesting way."

Classes can be arranged in the comfort of your own home or a local studio or gym, with flexible pricing options to balance your budget and desired training intensity and goals. Sessions can also bring together a variety of the practices I teach, to ensure each class maximises your wellbeing and physical progress.

Suitable for all levels, no matter where you are starting from. Whether you are new to any of the practices or fitness training in general, recovering from chronic pain or injury, coming back after a break, wishing to have regular support or one-off consultations to get you started, private sessions are designed exclusively for you or your group, with plenty of time to address questions and work in-depth to reach (and exceed!) your goals.

"V is an incredibly conscientious and knowledgeable Pilates teacher. I was looking for a teacher who had experience of my conditions; sciatica and a tendency towards hyper-mobility and a teacher who was also a yoga practitioner. V ticked all these boxes, and so much more. She took the time to listen to why I had sought 1:1 sessions and very quickly created a simple routine that was tailored for me. Within two weeks my sciatic nerve pain had reduced by 70%, I was able to sit for longer periods and at times forgot I even had it! "
